A tape and motion effect that puts your sound inside a living, breathing machine. Fuses level-aware tape character with stereo wow, flutter & drift.

Rhythm Guitar

A softly played and double tracked alternative R&B chord progression appropriately processed with a cassette style preset.

DIY Sample

Turn your homemade loops into freshly uncovered buried treasure with heavy cassette processing.

Retro Synth

Subtle glue and movement add an extra touch of authenticity to this 80s synth part, making it sound like a record instead of a modern synth.

Synth Arp

Warmth and texture from KMS breathe life into this cold, digital arp played on 1980s technology, making it feel like a record instead of a raw machine.

Atmospheric Track Bed

Width, movement, and glue enhance this track bed, making it a cohesive part worth building on.

Lead Synth

Heavy pitch flutters and tape character add depth to this phased-out synth lead (courtesy of High Flyer), giving it movement and a worn-in feel.

Under the Hood

• Four tape characters, from hi-fi half-inch to gritty micro-cassette
• Level-aware tone engine that darkens and compresses as you push it
• Independent left/right motion for wow, flutter, age, chew and noise
• Program-tracking noise and chew that embed into the signal like real tape
• Built-in range filter to place texture anywhere in the spectrum

True Stereo Motion

KMS isn’t a mono effect spread across two channels. The left and right move on their own, each side wobbling and drifting independently, and a single Width control opens the whole image from a rock-solid mono center out to a wide, immersive stereo field. A 2D modulation plot maps that movement on an XY display, so you can watch the left and right drift against each other in real time. It holds up on headphones and speakers alike.

An Organic Machine

Real tape machines were never perfect. They drifted, wobbled, hissed and wore down with every pass, and engineers spent decades fighting to keep them in line. KMS embraces exactly what they tried to engineer out, modeling the natural, imperfect state of a real machine rather than some idealized version of it. It rebuilds the wow, flutter, drift and grime of a physically running transport and hands every bit of it to you as a creative tool. Push it into heavy wobble and grime, keep it clean and almost still, or find your own balance anywhere between.
